A lot of our commercial work can be categorized as small commercial in building size, but the projects themselves are fairly complex. The majority of them involve buildings built in the late 1890’s or early 1900’s that have either been vacant or utterly neglected. Most of our commercial projects have included an occupancy change and a seismic upgrade as well as simply outfitting the building for its new use. Navigating these projects through the building department is challenging and sometimes frustrating though always interesting. And of course, it is overwhelmingly satisfying to play a part in saving a piece of Portland’s rich history.
